Meaningful Indigenous Engagement

As an Indigenous business, we have cultural and corporate responsibilities that we take seriously!

 We seek to:

  • Acknowledge the wisdom of community, especially Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and leaders;
  • Learn from and be supportive of Nations whose Traditional Territories we work in;
  • Explore sustainable initiatives that not only enhance our business and service      offerings, but the communities and local businesses where we operate;
  • Value our youth and recognize opportunities where employment, training, education, and career enhancement could bring benefits to the next generations;
  • Understand current and residual barriers that may provide challenges for community, ourselves and our clients and work collaboratively to overcome those barriers;
  • Recognize opportunities of mentorship for our future and current workforce
  • Seek opportunities to help build other business opportunities in our Indigenous Communities to support Nuclear and have a culturally respectful and transparent process for issue management that is inclusive of all parties involved.

Drawing on Previous Experience

 AlumaSafway have extensive experience providing innovative solutions to clients, as well as partnering with Indigenous groups to benefit local communities to support Economic Reconciliation, making AlumaSafway a partner that is a competitive with a social advantage. An example of this is in 2019, AlumaSafway and the Infinity Métis Corp announced the Infinity Limited Partnership, a partnership between AlumaSafway and the Infinity Métis Corp supporting the local Indigenous community. This partnership agreement created the largest Indigenous scaffolding, insulation and coatings provider in Canada that promotes training, career development, and tremendous value back to the local Mtis community. Today the Infinity Limited Partnership formed out of this relationship executes more than $300M annually in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.

A Local Advantage

Okwàho Aluma is currently completing work on our new Head Office on the Six Nations of the Grand River.  This will be a staging and ‘kitting’ facility that hires local community members.  At our facility, we will build standard kits for such items as cooling tents.  Where before they were built ad hoc at customer locations, assembly will be proceduralized, packaged into shipping containers and transported to our customer facilities.

As part of our commitment to Nuclear and OPG, we are also finalising negotiations with Saugeen First Nation for a similar regional office in their newly developed Industrial complex. This will be to support OPG Western Waste Operations, Bruce Power and our mining support operations in the north.

Canadian Council of Indigenous Business

 Okwàho Aluma is a Canadian Council of Indigenous Business (CCIB) Certified Indigenous Business and therefore, any contracts with us are a 100% Indigenous spend.
