Our Indigenous Engagement Strategy delivers an Indigenous solution to meaningful Indigenous engagement, approaching Indigenous Engagement from the ground up. Okwàho Aluma is proud of the strong relationships we have built with numerous Indigenous communities. As we expand our engagement efforts with Indigenous communities in whose traditional territories our major operations are performed, we draw on our extensive experience collaborating with previous communities. We remain committed to deepening these connections and look forward to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships with all of our Indigenous partners.
Our goal is to partner wherever and however possible, working with Indigenous communities and organisations right from the start to understand their needs and where their community wishes to participate in such programs.
Approaching the Indigenous Engagement Program (IEP) from an Indigenous perspective, we look to the Seventh Generation Principle as our guide. The Seventh Generation Principle is based on an ancient Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) philosophy that the decisions we make today should result in a sustainable world seven generations into the future.
Okwàho Aluma’s Indigenous Relations Program must address true Reconciliation on behalf of our clients. For Canada and it’s future we have to understand that we are in the First Generation that the Indigenous Communities have a real say in the matter of major infrastructure programs. Our goal is to support the continued success of our organisation and that Canada and with the support of our First Nations is stronger seven generations from today.
Our goal is to promote Indigenous culture as part of our daily operations. Our on-site signage will have Indigenous languages woven throughout our literature.
As you may have noticed our mission statement is:
Leading with Trust. Building with Purpose.
In the Mohawk traditional language it translates to:
Skáhne aetewanyáhehse’, Tyorihwayé:ri ayakwatenonhsónya’te’
